Necklace for Necklines

So many necklaces, so many necklines... but how do you pair them together? It can be tricky to find the right necklace to complement different necklines. Necklaces are meant to elongate the neckline and highlight the decolletage. The wrong necklace can hide behind your sweater or overpower a gorgeous new dress - neither of which is a good look. You want a necklace to be bold enough to be seen but subtle enough not to compete with the rest of your ensemble. From turtlenecks to v-necks and everything in between, use our necklace guide to help elevate every outfit in your closet.

V-Neckline

Necklace for V Neck

V-neck tops are common in the fashion world and offer tons of versatility as far as jewelry. A v-neck gives you room to layer. We love pairing a v-neck with a choker and a longer necklace. A short pendant would be the perfect necklace, too - the idea is to keep the necklace above the fabric of the top.

Here are some of our favorite necklace styles to mix and match for a v-neckline:

  1. Emerald Choker
  2. Diamond by the yard necklace
  3. Saturn chain

Crew Neckline

Necklace for Crew Neck

Thinking of wearing a crew neck sweater or your favorite t-shirt? These closet staples can be tricky to pair with the right necklace. A necklace that is longer than a choker but sits above the middle of your chest is the perfect pairing for a crew neck - think bib necklaces and pendant necklaces. A “princess length necklace,” about 18” long, would be ideal for going with a crewneck. This diamond initial necklace or our Solitaire Pearl Necklace are our favorite choices to pair with a basic t-shirt and a pair of jeans.

Strapless

A strapless top is the perfect backdrop for a statement necklace. Without any fabric to compete with, many different necklaces can shine with a strapless neckline. From a multi-strand rounded necklace to a lariat necklace, almost any necklace can become a statement piece when worn with strapless clothing. We love this diamond tennis choker layered with our diamond paperclip necklace for a show-stopping look. Our curved diamond bar necklace pairs beautifully with a strapless neckline, especially with a printed fabric. One of our enamel pendants will add a splash of color and a bit of whimsy to your look.

Turtleneck

To balance out the high neckline of a turtleneck, we recommend long, dangling necklaces. Our Large Sapphire Station Necklace paired with the Crescent Moon and Star Necklace is the perfect longer necklace combination.

Button Up Shirt

Necklace For Button Down

Button up (or button-down) shirts can be worn with different necklaces, depending on how the shirt is styled. If a few buttons are left open at the top, button-downs look great with a layered combination of shorter and longer necklaces. The gorgeous combination of this a diamond tennis choker layered with a diamond by the yard elevates any classic button-down.

When the shirt is worn fully buttoned, a short statement necklace that sits right under the collar is the best necklace choice. We like this curb link necklace with diamonds for an elegant collar necklace.

Halter Neckline

You can’t go wrong with a choker necklace when wearing a halter neck. Whether the halter top boasts a scoop neckline, a square neckline, or a plunging neckline, a choker goes beautifully without taking away from the beauty of the clothing. Our favorite chokers right now are our tennis necklaces, available in a variety of different gemstones. We're loving a ruby tennis choker

Scoop Neckline

A scoop neck looks great with a princess-length necklace (think 16-18” long). A 14K Gold Hanging Bezel Diamond Necklace is the perfect length to draw the eyes up to just below the collar bone.

Cowl Neckline

A shorter necklace with a small pendant is a perfect addition to the dramatic draping of a cowl neck top. We love this baguette solitaire necklace or this emerald heart necklace for a subtle piece of jewelry to complement a cowl neck.

Boat Neckline

To balance out the width of a boat neck top, it is best to wear a large necklace such as a bib or a collar necklace with multiple strands. We recommend layering some of our chain necklaces to do the trick.

Off The Shoulder / One Shoulder Neckline

Off the shoulder or one shoulder, necklines draw attention to the collarbone area. Choker necklaces are the perfect complement to this style neckline. We recommend a Diamond Tennis Choker to add a bit of sparkle to complete your look.

Sweetheart Neckline

A sweetheart neckline is a scalloped feminine style to resemble the top of a heart. It pairs well with a delicate pendant, such as our large bezel necklace or pink tourmaline heart necklace.
